How does SMS work on Google Voice?

Do you need a working cell phone carrier to send the SMS messages, or does Google send the SMS directly? No one is receiving the SMS messages that I send via Google Voice, so I was wondering if maybe that is the problem. I'm on military duty and my cell phone is deactivated for the time being.|||Hey M8;

It gives some links to web sites that send sms directly to cell phones.

Hope this helps, and stay safe!|||Step 1

In your google voice account settings, you have to select the Transcribe Voicemails option. This will allow google voice to record or SMS your voicemails to you. It is under settings in the general account settings. After setting up this option, it will become available.

Step 2

Whenever you receive a voicemail, it will be transcribed to your google voice account. It will also include the audio file of the voicemail so you can listen to it to make sure there are no mistakes.

Step 3

Google voice will continue to get better and recognize more words. This will help prevent mistakes.

Step 4

It will also let you search your SMS/text messages. It will store a backup/history of all of your text messages. Through the interface, there will be an option on the main page to search your SMS history.

Step 5

It also allows you to use the new feature ListenIn. This allows you to listen to a voicemail being left on your phone so you can decide whether or not to answer it. To use this, simply press 3 when someone calls you as long as your phone is set up to work with google voice.

Step 6

Through the google voice page, you can forward all of your phone calls to a different phones or to one phone. For instance, you can forward your home phone number so that it will ring on your cell phone. When you log into google voice, click the Phones tab and then settings to change these options.
